Open Face Chinese Poker can be played by two, three or four players. Using a standard fifty-two card deck, the dealer disburses 13 cards to each player. Players arrange their cards into three hands, as follows:

  • Top Hand (three cards)
  • Middle Hand (five cards)
  • Bottom Hand (five cards)

Players must arrange their cards into three hands, as follows:

  • Top hand – Player’s least strong hand
  • Middle hand – Stronger than the top hand
  • Bottom hand – The strongest hand of all the player’s hands

Please note that this hand ranking rule applies to all OFC poker variations except Pineapple 2-7.

In Pineapple 2-7, the following hand rankings apply:

  • Top hand – Stronger than the middle hand
  • Middle hand – The least strong hand
  • Bottom hand – The strongest hand of all the player’s hands

Should players fail to follow the hand-ranking sequence, the hand is “fouled” and counts as the lowest possible hand. In case the middle hand ties the bottom hand the hand is not considered “fouled”.
